Project Case Study: Engineering Precision & Utility Integration

‍For homeowners served by rural electric cooperatives like Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC), making the switch to solar requires specific interconnection approvals and meticulous system design. This homeowner wanted to reduce their reliance on the grid by utilizing their multi-plane gable roof for renewable energy production.

Our Harrisonburg solar team designed a high-efficiency 8.700 kW DC system perfectly tailored to the property. Because safety and longevity are our top priorities, we ensured the entire system passed rigorous, wet-stamped structural engineering reviews before a single panel was mounted. We also handled the regulatory paperwork, successfully securing the Interconnection Application approval directly from CVEC so the homeowner could safely export excess power back to the grid.‍

Key Upgrades & Materials

‍We use cutting-edge, premium materials to ensure maximum power output and total roof protection.‍The specifications for this custom system included:

  • High-Output Panels: We installed a two-array setup consisting of 20 Hyundai 435W (HIN-T435NF) Solar Modules. These panels provide a sleek, all-black aesthetic and exceptional performance, even in high temperatures.
  • Advanced Microinverters: Each panel was paired with an Enphase IQ8M Microinverter. This panel-level conversion maximizes the system's total AC output to 6.500 kW and ensures that if one roof facet experiences shade, the rest of the array continues operating at peak capacity.
  • Flashless, Leak-Proof Mounting: We secured the array to the roof using the UNIRAC NXT UMOUNT system combined with STRONGHOLD Butyl attachments. This innovative, peel-and-stick butyl technology creates a watertight seal against the asphalt shingles without the need to pry them up or cause damage.
  • Clean System Management: We utilized a flush-mounted Soladeck Junction Box to transition the wiring cleanly through the roof deck, keeping the exterior of the home looking sharp. The system is managed by an Enphase IQ Combiner 4/4C, offering real-time monitoring via the homeowner's smartphone.

Engineered for the Elements

‍Solar panels add weight and wind resistance to your home. We don't guess when it comes to structural integrity. For this project, our in-house engineering process verified that the roof framing (2x6 rafters spaced at 16 inches on center) could safely support the equipment dead loads alongside 115 MPH ultimate wind speeds and 30 PSF ground snow loads. When you choose our team, you get peace of mind knowing your system is built to last.‍
