At Cenvar Solar, we love helping homeowners in the "Perfect Slice of Virginia" take control of their energy production. We recently completed a stunning 10.8 kW residential installation in Amherst, Virginia, that perfectly demonstrates how solar technology can blend with a home's architecture while delivering massive power.

The Design & Aesthetics

For this project, the homeowner wanted a system that would provide significant energy offset without compromising the look of their property. The residence features a beautiful lakeside view, so maintaining the aesthetic appeal was a priority.

Our team installed a 10.8 kW DC system directly onto the existing asphalt shingle roof. As seen in the project photos, we utilized a low-profile racking system that keeps the panels flush with the roofline. The all-black panels provide a sleek, modern finish that complements the dark shingles, ensuring the array looks like a natural part of the home rather than an add-on.

Utility Approval & Safety

Navigating utility requirements is a huge part of what we do. This system is interconnected with Appalachian Power (APCO). We handled all the necessary applications (Case #AEPVA-06663) to ensure the system met APCO's strict grid-connection standards.

To meet safety codes and utility requirements, we installed a dedicated AC generator disconnect switch located directly next to the meter. This ensures that utility workers can safely service the grid when necessary. The electrical work, including the combiner box and disconnects, was installed cleanly and professionally, as shown in the equipment photos.

Inspection Success

A quality installation isn't finished until it passes the scrutiny of local officials. We are proud to report that this project passed its Final Inspection with Amherst County in November 2025 with zero issues. The building department marked the project as "Passed" and closed the permit, validating that our electrical and structural work meets all Virginia building codes.

Why Solar in Amherst County?

With a 9.12 kW AC output rating, this system is a powerhouse. It is designed to offset a significant portion of the home's electricity usage, protecting the homeowner from rising utility rates while utilizing clean, renewable energy.
