At Cenvar Solar, we pride ourselves on delivering solar solutions that are not only high-performing but also aesthetically designed to blend seamlessly with your home. We recently completed a beautiful 14.85 kW residential installation in Salem, Virginia, that perfectly showcases the quality of components and engineering we bring to every job.

The Challenge & Solution

For this project in Roanoke County, the goal was to maximize energy production while maintaining the curb appeal of the home. The homeowner needed a robust system capable of handling significant energy needs, requiring a design that utilized the roof's specific geometry efficiently.

Working with the home’s asphalt shingle roof, our engineering team designed a flush-mounted array consisting of 33 solar modules. To ensure the system met all local safety standards, we navigated the permitting process with Roanoke County, ensuring the structure met the 115 MPH wind speed requirements and all local building codes.

Premium Components

We believe in using the best hardware available to ensure longevity and maximum savings. For this Salem residence, we installed:

  • 33 x REC Alpha Pure-RX 450W Panels: These panels are a favorite for residential installs because of their high power density and their sleek, "all-black" appearance. As seen in the project photos, they sit flush against the roof, providing a modern look without the "checkerboard" grid lines seen on older panels.
  • Enphase IQ8X Microinverters: We paired every panel with its own microinverter. This "AC coupled" system means that if one panel is shaded or obstructed, the rest of the system continues to operate at full capacity. The IQ8 series is grid-interactive and known for its industry-leading reliability.
  • Unirac NXT UMount Racking: The foundation of the system is the racking. We utilized the Unirac NXT system, which offers superior waterproofing and structural integrity, ensuring the panels stay secure through Virginia’s variable weather.

Engineering and Safety

A solar system is only as good as its installation. This project included a Line Side Tap interconnection, which is a robust method of connecting the solar system to the grid.

As shown in the project imagery, our electrical team meticulously organized the internal wiring, utilizing high-quality Eaton Bussmann fuses and NEMA 3R rated enclosures to ensure weatherproofing and safety. The system passed all building and electrical inspections by the County of Roanoke, confirming that the installation met the highest safety standards.

Why Solar in Salem?

This project is a great example of how Salem homeowners are taking control of their energy costs. With a 14.85 kW system, this home is set to offset a massive portion of its annual electricity usage, locking in lower rates for decades to come.
